To have courage for whatever comes in life — everything lies in that.
PSHE & RSE
‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts,’ Winston Churchill
At Regina Coeli we want to equip our pupils with the skills and knowledge to make good choices and have a healthy outlook on school, their friends and the wider community. We deliver this through rich texts, lessons and opportunities, to learn that they have a responsibility in this world. Our Faith Values of Family, Aspiration, Inclusiveness, Tolerance and Harmony are interwoven into the curriculum. We aim to help pupils to understand the importance of looking after the environment and knowing that every person plays a part in creating a better world. Our pupils strive to develop positive, healthy relationships and to be in touch with their emotions. We want pupils to value everyone, celebrate differences and know that we are all children of God and we are all special. Identifying risk and managing personal safety are fundamental skills and our pupils learn how to keep their bodies healthy and how to keep safe including online. We hope that all the components of the PSHE curriculum will empower pupils with the skills they need to have strong sense of self and to be resilient in the face of adversity. We want them to know that their words and actions have an impact on themselves and others and want our curriculum to afford them with the opportunities they need to explore important life themes and prepare them for life in modern Britain.
In Years 3 & 4, children also complete the Partnership for Children’s programms: Zippy’s Friends and Apple’s Friends, which have been designed to support children’s good mental health development.
The statutory Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) Curriculum is taught through the Ten:Ten scheme of work 'Life to the Full', which is endorsed by the Southwark Diocese and Bishop's Conference of England and Wales. Life to the Full is a Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum programme underpinned by a Christian faith understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God. All lessons are age appropriate. We use this innovative faith based curriculum to provide a rich foundation for growth, personal development and happy, fulfilled relationships.
