Religious Education

All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13.

At the heart of Catholic education is the person of Jesus Christ.  The Catholic school provides an educational framework within which our young people can grow in their relationship with Christ in a way that takes account of their individual human development.  (Southwark Diocesan Policy on Religious Education and Collective Worship).

Religious Education enables our children to know and grow in their faith and develop their spirituality.  At Regina Coeli the moral, social, spiritual and cultural education is the corner stone of our mission as teachers, Governors, pupils and parents. We have a close partnership with the home and parish to ensure the children grow as committed Christians and followers of the Catholic Church.

The "Come and See" scheme is used throughout the school for the teaching and learning of RE. Through this scheme the children learn about other faiths.  Alongside it, 'A journey in Love' is used for SRE (Sex and Relationship Education). The Parish priest is always available to guide and support parents, teachers and children. There is a link governor for RE and another who sustains and develops the school, parish and family links.

The children attend Mass together each half term and on Holy Days. The Junior classes attend Mass on a weekly rota. The children prepare and present readings and prayers and they choose the hymns sung. Children pray in class together at different points during the day. There are weekly class liturgies organised and presented by both Infants and Juniors. During the months of May and October, staff, parents and children pray the Rosary before school. The crowning of Our Lady's statue takes place during the month of May. Annually, the school celebrates an RE focus week.

"I have come that you may have life and have it to the full" John 10:10.

Catholic education in the UK is based upon these words and at Regina Coeli this is our true belief.
