Be who you were created to be, and you will set the world on fire.
Religious Education
“The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful. And this occurs through a rich path made up of many ingredients. This is why there are so many subjects — because development is the results of different elements that act together and stimulate intelligence, knowledge, the emotions, the body, and so on… True education enables us to love life and opens us to the fullness of life.” - Pope Francis
Religious Education is a fostering of each child’s relationship with God, their neighbour and themselves. At Regina Coeli, our faith is at the heart of all we do and is articulated through our FAITH values. They underpin every aspect of life at our school. Our weekly celebration of the Word is planned and delivered by the children, where they share the Word of God and reflect upon how we can live its message in our daily lives. We welcome parents to share these celebrations with us. We have very close links with our local Catholic parishes with children attending mass at the local churches as well as our parish priests visiting the children here regularly to enhance their learning experiences. We follow the Come and See Programme and scripture plays an important part in our Religious Education lessons, we strive to bring their faith alive by making strong connections between the readings and the children’s lives today. We follow the ‘Come and See’ Religious Education Programme from Reception through to Year 6. This programme provides:
- opportunities for celebration, prayer and reflection in implicit and explicit ways.
- children with the language of religious experience - a 'literacy' in religious activities, places, stories, symbols and rituals, people and objects.
- a 'systematic presentation of Christian event, message and way of life' in ways appropriate to the age and stage of development of the child.
The children learn about the life of Jesus and how he inspires our thoughts, words and actions and how the Sacraments are an important journey in the life of a Catholic. Children are provided with experiences of church, Catholic and Christian traditions, as well as being taught to be respectful and understanding of people and traditions from other faith backgrounds. Pupils learn about the aspects of Catholic Social Teaching – which include Dignity, Solidarity, Peace, Creation and Environment - and know how these inspire us in our day-to-day actions. At Regina Coeli, we live out these values in many ways, including by supporting our local community by collecting for the homeless at harvest time and visiting local care homes. The children also take part in CAFOD’s Big Lent walk to help our global family. Prayer time is of upmost importance, allowing the children special time to talk to God though prayer. Pupils are encouraged to think openly about their faith as well as to explore links with other religions and traditions. Through their curriculum provision and the Catholic life of the school our children know that ‘Where there is love, there is God’.
