Parent Communication

School Newsletters are uploaded each Friday to the school website.  Hard copies are available in the lobby area. They are numbered and parents are encouraged to retain for future reference.  Copies are displayed on the Parent Notice Board by the Infant Entrance door.

There are a number of planned opportunities for parents to meet their child’s class teacher and to hear of progress.  The main occasions are: -

  • 2 Open or Progress Afternoons take place in November and June each year.  These are opportunities for the children to share their work and achievements with their parents.
  • Good quality support materials along with the Curriculum Map are given to parents in early October.
  • There are now two formal opportunities to discuss pupil progress – October & March.    Appointments are given and interviews are held in the school hall on either a Tuesday or Thursday evening.  The school is also open for parents to view at these times.
  • A written ‘End of Year Profile’ is sent to parents in early July which includes a full narrative and results from in-school and external assessments, where appropriate and available.

Other appointments can be made with the teacher directly.  An appointment is necessary as schools are very busy places and teachers are fully occupied at the beginning and end of the school day with planning, preparation and marking.

During the academic year 2008– 2009, in line with our Single Integrated Development Plan, there will be opportunities for parents to visit the school while the school is in session.  We are also planning a series of parent information evenings on themes pertaining to pupil progress.
