Geography
“Young people - they care. They know that this is the world that they're going to grow up in, that they're going to spend the rest of their lives in.” - Sir David Attenborough
At Regina Coeli it is our intention that pupils will connect and appreciate that geography is relevant to their lives, experiences and futures. We aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world, which will enable them to gain a deep knowledge of a breadth of localities and processes. We will equip them with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key processes. This begins with pupils understanding and exploring, through both classwork and fieldwork, their local area, their borough and county, and the United Kingdom as a whole before moving to the wider world. They will acquire the geographical knowledge and skills needed to make secure and lasting connections, become independent thinkers and also build on what they have previously learnt as they progress through their school lives. Our enquiry-based curriculum is designed to provide our children with the subject specific language they need to describe, question and discuss the world, as well as their place in it. Our pupils are encouraged to recognise that they have a voice and to use it confidently to debate topics that they feel passionate about, for example, deforestation or renewable energy. We want our pupils to develop a critical awareness of the environmental issues which face us in a modern world and we believe that enabling them to develop these skills will help them to become more confident and conscientious members of society both today and in the future.
