 14th May 2018

English

This week the children will continue with the story of Jack and the beanstalk. They will use the plan from last week to write up their story. This will include adjectives, sentence openers, conjunctions and the correct punctuation.The children will also be reading a comprehension and answering questions based on the text.

Maths

This week the children will continue their work on arrays. This will lead on to multiplication. The children will solve problems and write the number sentence. 

RE

In RE this week the children will start their new topic of "sorry". They will look at when and why we say sorry.

 

 

7th May 2018

English

This week the children will listen to the story of Jack and the beanstalk. They will begin by role playing it. This will be followed by a story map – sequencing the story. The children will then move on to retelling the story using story language.

Maths

This week the children will follow on their learning from last week by moving onto arrays. They will begin by using the counters to create arrays, followed on by recording what they see as a number sentence. The children will finish the week by solving problems.

RE

In RE this week the children will listen to and understand the story of Pentecost and it’s importance to the life of the church.

Science

This week the children will be enjoying their trip to Farthing Downs. They will enjoy looking at the features of the Downs. The children will identify signs, different flowers and trees etc.

 

30th April 2018

English

This week the children will retell a story based around frogs. They will ensure their sentences are punctuated, have adjectives and make sense.

Maths

This week we will be working on groups of / sets of. This is the beginning of multiplication. The children will count in 2/5/10. The children will explain that 2 sets of / groups of 5 is 10. Etc. They will use practical apparatus at the beginning of the week and move onto solving problems.

RE

In RE this week the children will continue their work on holidays / Holy days. The children will read and explain the story of the Ascension and how this leads onto Pentecost.

  

23rd April 2018

English

This week the children will start by looking at non – fiction and finding out information about frogs. The children will identify the features of non-fiction text. They will look carefully at adjectives and discuss how they impact the text. The children will create a life cycle of a frog using captions.

Maths

This week we will be working on capacity. The children will begin the week by filling different sized containers with non-standard units. They will make predictions. The children will use the language surrounding capacity. As the week goes on the children will move on to filling the containers with water and see which holds the most / least.

RE

In RE this week the children will continue their work on holidays / Holy days. They will discuss which days they know – Christmas, Easter, Pentecost etc.

Science

This week the children will start their topic – the question “Why is Percy the perfect park keeper?” They will go on a walk around the school looking at the different flowers and trees in the area.

  

16th April 2018

 English

As it is the first week back we are easing in to school life. We are starting off the week with phonics as usual – we are revisiting our previous sounds to reinforce their learning. The children will then be working on their grammar – past and present tense. This is always tricky. You can work on this with your children at home. We will also be retelling our holiday news which will reinforce the past tense.

 Maths

This week we will be working on position. This will involve the children using the vocabulary – forward, backward, left, right, three quarter and quarter turns. Knowing your left and right can be difficult for the children, so you can reinforce this at home.

RE

In RE this week the children will start their new topic of holidays and Holy days. The children will begin by discussing their favourite holiday. They will explain what they are taking in their suitcases and why.

 

 

 

5th March 2018

English/History

As we had 2 days of closure we will be carrying over our diary writing based on Samuel Pepys. The children will also do some grammar work based around er / est. They will then move on to completing a comprehension based on the Great Fire of London. There will be a mixture of written answers / multi choice answers.

 

Maths

Again we will be carrying over some of the maths lessons from last week. We will then move onto measure. This will begin by introducing measure vocabulary – longer, shorter, smaller, larger, thinner and thicker. They will then compare different objects by using this vocabulary. This will then lead them onto using a metre stick to measure, moving on to a ruler.

 

RE

In RE this week the children will start their new topic of changes. The children will write what they know about changes and how lent encourages us to make changes for the better.

 

 

26th February 2018

 

English/History

The children are continuing their learning based around the Great Fire of London. This week we will be looking at the diary of Samuel Pepys. They will read the diary and discuss what he saw, how he felt and what he heard. The children will then make a story map of his events, which will then be used for them to write their own diary extract. They will continue to build up and add to their word bank of vocabulary based on this topic.

 

Maths

This week the children are at number problems involving a missing number. They will use counters and the 10 frame to count on – in order to find the missing number. As always the children approach the maths using practical apparatus. Some children will be able to count on using fingers / in their head. By the end of the week the children will look at number sentences and put in the correct sign (- + = ) in the right place in order to solve the number sentence. They will be encouraged to check the answer using the skills they have been working on in the week.

 

 RE

In RE this week the children will be writing the promise they made for Lent on a leaf. The children will reflect on Lent being a time to think about others, making changes for the better and thinking about Jesus in the desert and the sacrifices he made.                                                                       

Science

The children are coming to the end of the science topic of materials. They will be carrying out an experiment involving making houses for the 3 pigs. They will use different materials and predict which ones would make the best houses and why. The children will then make the house, try to blow them down and record their findings

 19th February 2018

English/History

The children have a very exciting couple of weeks as we are learning all about the Great Fire of London. They will start the week off telling us what they know if anything. The children will then look at pictures and discuss what they think is happening? Why? What are the clues in the pictures? The children will be using Historical language throughout this topic.

Maths

This week the children are looking at 1 / 10 less than and 1/10 more than. The children are revisiting and consolidating their learning. This time they will using a 100 square with numbers missing. The children will also explain how they know using the explanation sentence “ I know that……”

RE

We are continuing our topic of meals. The children will write about a special meal they have had. They will explain what the special meal was for, who was there and how they felt about it.

Science

This week in materials we are carrying out an experiment. The children will have to make a prediction and complete the experiment – which is the most suitable material to keep the pig safe from the wolf.

 

5th February 2018

This week is book week and our story is Snow White and the seven Dwarves.

English

The children will learn about different fairy tales. They will listen to the story and then retell it to their learning partner. The children will then create a story map sequencing the story using the correct story language.

Maths

As it is book week we will be doing maths through the fairy tale.

The children will also be solving word problems.

RE

We are continuing our topic of meals. The children will write about a special meal they have had. They will explain what the special meal was for, who was there and how they felt about it.

Science
